Conventional Spring Mattress
Pocket Coil Mattress
Generally known as Bonnell Spring, Offset Coils and Continuous Coils.
These are the oldest and most commonly used spring.
They were adapted from a design used in buggy seats in the 19th century.
This hourglass shaped wire is joined to adjacent coils by small wire spirals called helicals.
Offset Coils, Continuous Coils and Bonnell Coils are essentially the same in function and all suffer the same issues.
The transfer of motion is the main problem with these types of coils, plus the tendancy for you to roll together as well as your mattress feeling more like a hammock.
Also known as Marshall Coils which were patented in 1900.
This is a grouping of independent coils wrapped in a fabric casing and then sewn together.
As a system it conforms better to your body than all other mattress support systems.
It is terrific for pressure point relief and the coil motion separation results in reduced partner disturbance.
Production of pocket coils is more expensive but the advantages far outweigh the costs.
High carbon, double tempered steel wire provides longevity.
